Metrel Alpha EE 3340 Print Kit Review

Metrel Alpha EE 3340 Print KitPros: Durable build with large touchscreen. Runs on fast-charging lithium-ion battery or mains power. Bluetooth connectivity for printer and scanner with quick re-testing. In-built Isolation Transformer. Comes with data logging software at no extra cost.

Cons: Data transfer limited to USB (no Wi-Fi). Optional accessories add to cost. Slightly heavier than entry-level testers.

The Bottom Line: Metrel’s new Alpha EE 3340 Kit takes everything the older Metrel systems were known for - reliability, smart menus, and flexibility - and adds a crisp colour touchscreen and integrated printing options. If you carry out frequent testing and want a complete, tablet-free system that still feels rugged and practical, the Alpha EE is one of the most capable options in the professional range.

Key Features of the Metrel Alpha EE Print Kit

The Alpha EE, released in mid-2025, represents Metrel’s move further into the high-end segment of portable appliance testers. While the DeltaPAT 3309 BT has long been Metrel’s flagship model, the Alpha EE 3340 takes a distinctly different approach - introducing a large colour touchscreen interface and eliminating the need for a separate Android device. We’ve found that this PAT Tester takes Metrel’s already proven testing reliability and then mixed it with a more streamlined and integrated user experience.

Battery & Power Options

A high-capacity lithium-ion battery delivers long run-times between charges and can be topped up quickly. When needed, the unit can also run directly from mains power, so you’ll be able to test and tag and continue uninterrupted.

Expanded Test Capabilities

Out of the box, the Alpha EE handles 10 A and 15 A equipment. With Metrel’s optional Client Meter accessory, it can also test 3-phase appliances, making it suitable for industrial and workshop environments. In addition, it can test EV charge leads when paired with Metrel’s adaptor, a unique capability no other PAT Tester currently offers.

Bluetooth Connectivity & Printing

The EE 3340 pairs with a Zebra ZQ521 Bluetooth printer and a compatible barcode or 2D scanner. It prints durable direct-thermal tags that can include your company logo and details, and now uses QR codes instead of standard barcodes. That means faster re-testing and the ability to store more appliance data per tag. This will be especially useful for anyone testing and tagging in high volume.

Integrated Touchscreen - No Tablet Required

Metrel EE 3340 Touchscreen

Unlike previous Metrel appliance testers, the Alpha EE 3340 features a fully integrated touchscreen interface, meaning all test setup, data entry, and result management are handled directly on the device itself - no external tablet or Android system required. This addresses a long-standing frustration for users who preferred Metrel’s PAT Testers but didn’t want to rely on separate smart devices. The large, durable colour touchscreen is highly responsive and intuitive to navigate, offering a very straightforward user experience. For added flexibility, the unit also includes traditional push buttons, providing an alternative input method for those who prefer a more tactile feel during testing.

How it Performs in the Field

In everyday use, we found that the Alpha EE Kit delivers an excellent balance of usability and practicality. The large touchscreen makes test selection and operation quick, accurate, and intuitive, while the ability to print test tags directly from the unit allows you to work completely untethered — no tablet, app, or cloud connection required. For many test and tag professionals, that level of independence will be a major advantage.

With its pre-loaded Auto Tests covering the most common appliance types, the Alpha EE is ready to go straight out of the box. These test sequences can also be customised to match your specific workflow, helping streamline setup and reduce time spent in the field.

While it’s slightly larger and heavier than entry-level models, that’s an acceptable trade-off for what you gain — a built-in screen, battery, and isolation transformer. The tester itself is comfortable to hold and feels solid in hand, with a distinctly professional finish. Most users will value its premium build quality and integrated design far more than the few extra grams it carries.

Drawbacks to Consider

  • USB-only data transfer—no wireless or cloud sync is currently available. For people accustomed to instant syncing or cloud-based storage, this may feel a bit outdated.
  • Optional 3-phase and EV accessories add to cost and aren’t included in the base kit, so that is something to factor in when budgeting.
  • Slightly bulkier than lightweight appliance testers, so it’s more suited for when on-site convenience outweighs the need for a light unit.

Is it Worth the Investment?

For serious test and tag professionals who want reliability, freedom from external tablets, and the ability to handle more advanced testing scenarios, the Metrel Alpha EE is a clear step forward. It combines a professional-grade touchscreen experience with seamless printer and scanner connectivity, all wrapped up in Metrel’s trademark durability and flexibility.

What really sets it apart — and justifies the higher price tag — is the large, responsive colour touchscreen. By removing the need for a separate Android device, the Alpha EE delivers a far more streamlined and intuitive testing process.

While none of its drawbacks are deal-breakers, the main one to be aware of is the USB-only data transfer. Some users may find this restrictive compared to wireless syncing, while others will appreciate the simplicity and reliability of a direct connection. Ultimately, it comes down to how you prefer to manage your data.

If you’re testing large volumes of appliances or managing multiple sites, the Alpha EE has the performance, design, and independence to easily become the backbone of your operation.
